The right bedsheet starts with a few simple measurements. Size names are useful, but the actual dimensions of your mattress and bedding tell you much more. Keep a tape measure and a note on your phone handy while you shop.

Measure the mattress

Measure the width from side to side and the length from head to foot. Then measure its depth. Include a topper if you normally use one: your sheet needs to cover the mattress you actually sleep on, rather than the mattress alone.

Think about the finish you prefer

For a flat bedsheet, consider how much fabric you want at the sides and how much you like to tuck underneath. A deeper mattress takes up more fabric. A fitted sheet needs a suitable pocket depth, so check that measurement when it is supplied rather than assuming every king sheet will fit every king mattress.

Check each piece in the set

A bedding set can include different combinations of sheets, pillow cases, shams, quilts and cushion covers. Read the set contents carefully. For example, the Chester Luxica Arona set lists a 275 × 275 cm bedsheet and a 265 × 228 cm double quilt. Those are two different pieces with different jobs, so compare each one to your needs.

Remember your pillows and cushions

Measure your inserts too. A pillow case and a decorative cushion cover are not interchangeable, even if their colours coordinate. If you are buying the Tabriz cushion cover, its listed size is 16 × 16 inches. Check your insert before ordering.

Ask when a detail is missing

If a product page does not list the measurement you need, ask us before choosing. We would rather help you find the right fit than have you make a guess. Send the product name and your mattress or insert dimensions, and we can help with the next step.
